Wclock Copying Wclock Settings

To copy your existing Wclock settings (clock time zones, widths, formats, etc) to a new computer, follow this procedure. It saves the settings from the registry and allows you to copy them to your new hard drive. This works on XP and Vista. Other versions of Windows are similar but may have slightly different menu prompts.

Procedure

  1. On your old computer that already has the Wclock settings you want, save the registry settings to a file wclock.reg by doing one of the following options:
    1. Quick method:
      1. Download and save this zip file. For convenience, save it to your desktop. This contains a batch file with these contents.
      2. Unzip the file to obtain the batch file wclock-regbackup.bat. You must actually extract the .bat file to your desktop or another directory, not just run it from within the zip file.
      3. Open or double-click on this batch file to run it. Your system may give a warning about untrusted or unsigned software. Answer Yes or OK to all of them.
      4. This should have created a text file in the same directory called wclock.reg.
    2. Using the Registry Editor:
      1. Open the registry editor: Start > Run and type regedit in the Open box then click OK.
      2. Follow the tree to find
        HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
        Software\
        D I Management\
        wclock

Make sure it is HKEY_CURRENT_USER and not HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. There should be a series of sub-directories called "0", "1", "2",... showing in the right-hand pane.

      3. Right-click on the wclock folder and select Export. This should open an Export Registry File window and should show Selected Branch as HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DI Management\wclock.
      4. Select a directory (use a USB drive or something that is not the old hard drive) and call the exported filename wclock.reg. Click Save to save the file.
  2. Install Wclock on your new computer using the WclockInst.exe program from Download. Exit the Wclock program on the new computer if it is running.
  3. Copy the wclock.reg file created in step 1 onto the new computer. As a check, the contents of a typical wclock.reg file should look similar to this text file. You can open it with NotePad or any text editor. It should contain several entries that begin [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DI Management\wclock].
  4. Right-click on the wclock.reg file and select Merge. The computer should warn you "Do you really want to..., etc., etc...". Vista will give even more warnings about unsigned software, the dangers of overwriting, blindness, etc. Say Yes or OK to all of them. (After all, you made the file, didn't you?)
  5. Start up Wclock using Start > Programs > Wclock or using the icon on the desktop. It should have your new settings.
