These significant computer programs were created by David Ireland prior to establishing DI Management Services as part of his full-time job as a Business Planning Manager, Management Consultant or Engineer.
Finance, accounting and database management
- Designed automated budgeting system for Tooheys Limited using Microsoft Access. Supervised implementation and managed use of system to prepare company's operating budget, which was completed in record time.
- Devised and implemented a new system using dBase IV to extract accounts information from a Unix-based accounting system and prepare monthly management reports within one day of closing off the books.
- Designed and implemented an activity analysis package to be used by a management consulting practice to analyse and prepare detailed reports on the work activities carried out by staff in client organisations. Written in C programming language.
- Designed and implemented a program to analyze and optimise share portfolios using histories of prices and dividends to compute the volatility of the securities. Written in C with graphics.
- Designed and implemented a dBase II system to automate client billing and prepare management reports for time and personnel costs involved in preparation of engineering drawings by an engineering consulting firm.
- Designed, wrote and used a program to manage levy payments for Strata Body Corporate. Written in C.
- Used Microsoft Access to produce a series of ad hoc reports analysing billing fees for PricewaterhouseCoopers combining databases of Coopers & Lybrand and Price Waterhouse. Results used to prepare strategic plans for Tax and Legal Services practice.
Engineering and Computer Graphics
- Designed and implemented a program to convert computer-aided design files from an obsolete CAD system into Auto-CAD format together with communications software to transfer the files from the old Sperry-Univac mini to a PC. The conversion program was written in C, and the communications software written in a combination of C, Fortran 66 and Assembler languages.
- Created a program for a consulting engineering firm to analyse and design guyed mast structures. Written in Fortran 77. Since sold to other engineering firms in New Zealand and South Africa.
Excel and macros
- Managed budget consolidation process for AAP Information Services using a series of Excel spreadsheets. Automated links to TM/1 database and PeopleSoft accounting system using Visual Basic macros
- Created double-entry bookkeeping system to manage accounts for Strata Title Body Corporate using macro-driven Lotus spreadsheets.
